Delivery to Kallepia
Our small village, Kallepia, lies about 15 km (9 miles) from the center of Paphos. There are two regions of Paphos, Kato Paphos (lower Paphos) and Pano Paphos (upper Paphos). The main business and administrative centers are found in Pano Paphos while the tourist centers, bars, hotels, archeological park and port are all in Kato Paphos. The old town and origins of Paphos are found in Kato Paphos and the new part of town is found in Pano Paphos.
Cyprus, like the rest of the modern world, is linked and serviced by courier and delivery companies. However, despite our expectations to the contrary, the major courier companies, DHL, FedEx, UPS etc. rely upon local courier companies for delivery within Cyprus. Unfortunately most of them do not deliver to your door outside of the major urban centers.
We have become spoiled shoppers and consumers in North America, we are used to ordering online and receiving delivery to our front door, sometimes the same day, but in most case a day or two later. Not so in Cyprus in general and especially not so in the villages.
Pre Brexit it was easy to order from Amazon UK and get delivery a few days later. The Amazon deliveries came to Kallepia, but the drivers could never find our house as our address does not appear in Google Maps. Agios Georgios (Άγιος Γεώργιος) loosely pronounced a-yi-oss yo-ree-oss, is the name of our street, it means Saint George. Agios Georgios is a common street and place name used throughout Cyprus. Enter Agios Georgios, Kallepia, Cyprus into Google Maps and you will find the main church on the village square, not our street. So Amazon delivery drivers always call and ask me to meet them at the church for deliveries.
Post Brexit we shop on either Amazon DE or Amazon IT for items we cannot source easily in the island. Shopping on Amazon UK tends to make products more expensive and take longer to deliver as the UK is no longer in the EU. Additionally, many British merchants will no longer ship to the EU due to the added customs paperwork required.
My daughter in the USA sent me some items via FedEx about a week ago. This morning I got the expected phone call to “Meestair Eeyan”, in delightfully Cypriot accented English, to come and pick up my parcel at their office in Pano Paphos. It’s become an expected ritual for many small deliveries where they don’t come to the village. We typically combine the parcel pickup with other errands we need to run in town. Our small village, Kallepia, lies about 15 km (9 miles) from the center of Paphos.
